Dear Donors,
We would like to share an update on this year's Designing Artists Academy (DAA) summer camp!
Established in 2008, Designing Artists Academy is an annual summer arts camp in Tokyo that gives children living in children’s homes (orphanages) the opportunity to explore different art forms under the guidance of professional artists from around the world.
This year’s DAA was filled with creativity, laughter, friendship, and fun! Held on August 11 and 19 at the Tokyo American Club in Minato City, the camp welcomed children from two different children’s homes for a full day of activities, with transportation, lunch, and all associated expenses covered to ensure the children could fully enjoy the experience.
Throughout the camp, the children participated in a variety of artistic workshops designed to encourage creativity, self-expression, and exploration. Each small group was supported by a dedicated mentor who encouraged the children to try new things, build confidence, and challenge themselves in a welcoming environment. Mornings were spent exploring different art mediums, followed by lunch and an afternoon of physical activities.
Beyond the art workshops, the children had plenty of opportunities to stay active, have fun, and connect with one another. They enjoyed dance lessons, bowling, soccer, basketball, ping pong, and pool, while also expressing their creativity by painting a mural, creating their own paintings, and decorating bags. Best of all, the children were able to take their artwork home with them, giving them something tangible to remember their experience.
Some of the most meaningful moments weren't just about what the children created, but about the experiences they shared, the friendships they built, and the freedom to express themselves. Through art, sports, and play, DAA provided a space where the children could try something new, discover their interests, and simply enjoy being kids.
At YouMeWe, we believe every child deserves opportunities to explore, laugh, create, and feel part of something special. DAA gave us another wonderful reminder of why these experiences matter and how meaningful opportunities for creativity and connection can make a difference in the lives of children in care.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the incredible volunteers, artists, mentors, and supporters who helped make this year's DAA such a memorable experience. Your support helps create opportunities for children to learn, grow, express themselves, and build lasting memories.
Help create a fully supported creative experience for youth in care.
