We continue to be humbled by the outpouring of support that we receive every year.  Donations of all sorts, both large and small, letters of encouragement and letters from current adopters help to remind us why we all do this.  It is difficult to call what we do work, since we are all so passionate about these wonderful dogs that we get to help each and every day.  Whether we call it work or something else, we are often faced with many different challenges.

Founded in 1985, we are closing in on 30 years of providing adoptive services to Golden’s throughout all six New England states and in special cases from areas outside of New England.  It is because of your generosity that we have been able to provide support for all the Golden’s who find their way, by whatever means, to our adoption program at Riverview.

Shelters and individuals who are faced with tough decisions about a dog’s future turn to us for counseling and assistance. Nobody wants to have to make these decisions, but we are able to step in and help these dogs, giving them a second chance at life.  We are fortunate to have the facility and the outstanding professional staff that we do, which allows us to provide proper care to bring many Golden’s back to health, which also has a downstream effect. Often local shelters need to free up space so they may help other dogs who may not have a specific rescue group behind them. As a result, these dogs also receive a better chance of becoming a member of a new and loving family.

Here are a few of our recent residents who have found their forever homes, regardless of having faced difficult situations in their earlier lives.

YGRR is particularly proud of its program for senior and/or special needs Golden’s.  The oldest Golden admitted to our program was Biscuit, YGRR #5128.  Biscuit was 16 when his owners surrendered him to their local shelter because he would have accidents if they didn’t get home from work on time.  The shelter worker said when she brought Biscuit out of his run the day he arrived, he made her cry by putting his head in her lap and just wanting to be loved.  When we got the call, we immediately made arrangements to bring Biscuit into our program.  He was given a complete health checkup and brought back to Riverview.  Shortly after his arrival, Biscuit developed vestibular disease.  This affliction is common in elderly dogs.  Biscuit was nauseous and dizzy.  He couldn’t walk and didn’t want to eat.  Only time can help this condition, but Biscuit was in the right place.  He had a comfy bed and our dedicated staff helped him outside to potty.  When he was most dizzy, he was even carried in and out.  To tempt him to eat, our kennel manager stocked up on fast food cheeseburgers to entice him.  Biscuit made it through his crisis with lots of TLC.  He is now living with a loving adoptive family and is doing beautifully in his new home.
