Youth empowerment is a critical factor in fostering a generation that is capable, confident, and ready to contribute positively to society. One of the most powerful ways to empower young people is through education and skill-building programs. These initiatives not only equip youth with knowledge but also provide practical skills that can lead to personal growth, career opportunities, and the ability to actively participate in their communities. The project aims to create employment and income to contribute economic sustainable development. Here’s how education and skill-building programs empower youth:

Overall Goal:

Empower youth, especially girls and young women, by strengthening their skills and voices for economic self-reliance to take a leadership role in poverty alleviation initiatives in Kurigram district in Bangladesh.

Specific Objectives: Develop skills and access to information and technology for increasing productivity among young people in Kurigram District, Bangladesh

    Support the access to office management skills to promote decent employment opportunities to improve economic self-reliance among young people in Cox’s Bazar and Dhaka district

    Strengthen school-based DP / DRR approaches

Target groups

The direct target group of this project are 200 youth people among them 60% girls and young women.  The age range of the target groups is approx. 15 – 25 years with a minimum of accomplished class nine to graduate in school and college. The indirect target beneficiaries of this project are 1,800 family members.

Project Location:

YES, Project will be implemented in Island (River basin) Areas of 6 Union under Sadar Sub-District of District Kurigram in Bangladesh

Project Duration:

2 years (October,2025 to September 2027)

Expected result of the project

v  Life skills for 200 youth (60% girls and young women) are enhanced

v  400 youth gained market driven skills to improve their economic self-reliance

v  30 girls are equipped with Sewing Machine

v  The possibility of 200 young people to enter successfully the job market or to sell their skills or to pursue education/training at advanced schools or universities are enhanced.

v  Trainees are ready to act as Change Agents regarding DP and DRR

Major activities planned

  1. Adapt and equip the current training venue
  2. Conduct a training needs assessment
  3. Select potential participants for training
  4. Provide life-skills development trainings for Adolescents girls
  5. Provide management skills trainings: The target groups will receive 6 types of separate trainings as follows
  • ICT (Computer) training
  • Office management and secretarial course
  • Garments and tailoring for young girls
  1. Provide community-based Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) trainings
  2. Provide small grant as startup capital for business
  1. Arrange Job Fair and Job Placement
  2. Organize structured round-table meetings with potential stakeholders
  3. Organize advocacy campaigns for job placement
  4. Conduct regular coordination, monitoring as well as mid-term and end-of-project evaluation

 Appeals:

The project interventions we have been started from early October, 2025 and continued according to project plan. Some activities have been just started and while others activities will also be taken into consideration to implement. Budgetary funding is a constraint to implements the project interventions.However, funding is therefore necessary to implement the programmes.GlobalGiving is trying to raise the funds meet the operational cost. This project would not have been possible without the kind support and help of donors, friends and any individuals. To support the project fund raising is continued under GlobalGiving and we hope that all the people who are willingly would like to extend their support for the project is highly appreciated.
