It is a fact ...Low literacy impacts every aspect of a child’s life, their schools and communities.

Close to 1/4 of all children in our country live in poverty, hundreds of thousands more live on the brink.

McCormick Foundation analysis of census data.

By the age of 3 many children in low income families have not heard enough words to be prepared for success in school. It is reported by many researchers that they start school with a 75% vocabulary deficit and have heard 30 million fewer words than children from higher income families.

Of Children struggling to learn to read in 1st grade, nearly 90% will be poor readers in the 4th grade. In Philadelphia year after year, Superintendent after Superintendent over 60% of children in the 3rd grade can not read, write or do math proficiently.

Children who are not reading proficiently at grade level by 3rd grade are four time more likely to drop out of school.

It does not have to happen. We have demonstrated over the past 20 year that we have the ability if we have the will to distribute low cost refurbished computers to parents loaded with software donated with www.brillkids.com. This software we load on every computer gives parents both the tools, training, and technology thay can use in a short period of time with lots of fun learn anything they want to learn at their own pace and interest.

That is the power of technology.

4 kids that immigrated to the US from Vietnam where their father spent a few years in jail came to TeamChildren and began volunteering. They all got through high school with computers from TeamChildren. All four graduated from college and are now gainfully employed.
