Summary

Our vision is for every child to grow up in a safe and loving family and reach their full God-given purpose. World Without Orphans Europe calls and equips national leaders to collaborate in solving their countries' orphan and vulnerable child crisis through prevention and intervention efforts.

Challenge

Imagine a child growing up without a loving family. In 2021, there were 863,235 children living in alternative care in the 27 EU countries and the UK. Many have experienced neglect and trauma, or are abandoned due to lack of finances and support. Children growing up in institutions are more vulnerable to trafficking and abuse, and often have difficulty reaching independence as adults. Overwhelming evidence shows that the best place for a child to reach their God-given potential is in a family.

Solution

WWO Europe is working to protect and provide families for children in care in several ways. We do this by equipping national leaders to collaborate to solve their orphaned and vulnerable children crisis; initiating and supporting national movements in the nations of Europe; ending the institutionalization of children through lobby and advocacy campaigns; supporting foster and adoptive families through training and support programs; and engaging churches to support families and promote adoption.

Long-Term Impact

Our Romanian partners worked with the government to change adoption laws, meaning 12,000 less children are in state care than in 2020, and adoptions rose from 700 in 2016, to 1600 in 2022. Elsewhere, children are being reunited with their birth families, Moldova is supporting orphanage graduates to transition in a family home, and Albania is training practitioners in trauma-aware parenting. WWO Europe has funded Ukraine relief projects such as humanitarian packages and trauma training.
