Our vision is for every child to grow up in a safe and loving family and reach their full God-given purpose. World Without Orphans Europe calls and equips national leaders to collaborate in solving their countries' orphan and vulnerable child crisis through prevention and intervention efforts.
It's estimated there are over 850,000 children living in alternative care in the 27 EU countries and the UK. Many have experienced neglect and trauma. Many are abandoned due to disabilities, or lack of finances and support. Children growing up in institutions are vulnerable to trafficking and abuse, and often have difficulty reaching independence as adults. Overwhelming evidence shows that the best place for a child to reach their God-given potential is in a family.
WWO Europe is working to protect and provide families for children in care in several ways. Our activities support families at risk, foster and adoptive families through training and support programs; and engaging churches to support families and promote adoption and fostering. We equip national leaders across Europe to initiate and grow this movement for vulnerable children and families in their own country and to end the institutionalization of children through lobby and advocacy campaigns.
We recently partnered with Bulgaria Without Orphans to host their first forum, where 60 leaders and workers were trained. In Finland, we supported a trauma-informed training session for 30 foster parents. Currently, we are working with Germany and Poland as their national leadership teams form and commit to caring for vulnerable children. We are excited as projects are now in development that will impact the lives of disabled, trafficked, and displaced children across Europe.
