This month we have created a Sponsor Search Committee and have begun to form strategies for contacting potential sponsors. We will be able to show results soon.
During this time Mushuk Yuyay has also built support in Ecuador by contacting municipal, provincial, and national government officials. Last week they had a productive meeting with the Governor of the Province of Cañar. They have also met with the Universidad del Azuay for technical support and resources.
We have written to organizations that have offered to publicize the IX World Quinua Congress. The articles should appear in the newsletters soon.
We also received a beautiful letter of support from Joan Gross of Oregon State University:
I have followed Mushuk Yuyay’s agricultural work for over a decade and am impressed with the progress they’ve made supporting smallholder farmers and re-valorizing native crops for the nutritional and environmental benefits they bring. Kañaripeople have been involved with the Intercultural Learning Community on Food, Culture, and Social Justice since 2013 and we have benefitted immensely from their knowledgeable participation. In 2016, they hosted a group of Oregon State University students and Nicolás Pichazaca demonstrated his organizational skills as we experienced planting, cooking and eating within this millennial Andean culture.
