Today more than ever, the world needs actions in favor of inclusion. In schools, workplaces and communities, old and new divisions lead to social exclusion, isolation and abuse, depriving us all of the opportunity to learn and grow together. People with intellectual disabilities know this better than anyone, as many of the world's nearly 200 million people with intellectual disabilities continue to be marginalized and excluded in schools, workplaces and communities around the world.
At Special Olympics we believe that inclusion is a skill we can all practice, and when we do, we become better at including all people. The transformative power of sport to instill confidence, improve health and inspire a sense of competition is at the core of what we do at Special Olympics.
The Latin American Games in Asunción will bring together more than 1,000 athletes from 20 countries in the region and will be promoted through joint work between the National Government, through the Office of the First Lady and the National Secretariat, in conjunction with Special Olympics America Latina. , the Paraguayan Olympic Committee and Special Olympics Paraguay. The sporting event includes in its programming a total of 12 sports disciplines and 4 exhibition disciplines, seeking to show the true spirit of sport, through intense competitions, inspiring stories and acts, as well as the empowerment of athletes with and without intellectual disabilities.
