AKWOS in partnership with Ministry of Sports, Kigali City and Ministry of Gender and Family Promotion launched a new Game known as Netball on the 1st April 2012 in the Closing Ceremony of the International Women Day.

This attracted many Government officials and the Civil Society who joined the game. It was an exciting moment having a Minister, a UNICEF Representative and Vice-Mayor of Kigali City participating in the game with young girls.

This was in preparation of creating a Rwanda Netball Federation, so as to give a chance to those who are interested in Netball  to participate in the  Netball Championship on Regional and International level.

At the end of the game, AKWOS gave prizes to the pioneers of this game which were handed over by the Minister of Gender and Family Promotion, the permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sports and Culture, the UNICEF Representative and the President of the National Women’s Council.

On that very day, there was a Champions league match between the best two teams of APR and AS Kigali Women Football teams. The match ended with the score of 2-0 on behalf of AS Kigali.

Also, measuring the role of sports to fight Gender Based Violence(GBV) using the Goal Curriculum, AKWOS trained young girls with the age between 9 and 12 drawing pictures according to  the way they understand Gender Based Violence showing children’s rights, their body, peer pressure, work, right to play,… under the supervision of the trained coaches.
