This quarter, Women Who Lead showed what sustainable progress really looks like: women saving consistently, borrowing wisely, investing in income-generating tools, and reinvesting profits to keep growing. Through our Community Health & Empowerment Clubs (CHECs), women continue pairing financial skills like table banking and small loans with steady leadership inside their groups.
Below is one snapshot from the field that captures the momentum donors like you are making possible.
Kanyamfwa: Table Banking → Sewing Machines → Stronger Households
What changed:
Jackline Achieng Omondi, a 45-year-old widow and mother of four, is part of the Kanyamfwa Tailoring Group. Through consistent merry-go-round/table banking savings, she took out a loan and purchased her own sewing machine.
Why it matters:
That one investment increased her daily income significantly — helping her provide for her household and keep educating her daughters. Her oldest daughter just graduated from university, and Jackline shared that she feels hopeful about what lies ahead.
The ripple:
Jackline’s progress is part of a larger shift: three members of the tailoring group have now purchased their own sewing machines.
By the numbers (this quarter):
The group completed their second share-out since GHC began supporting the village:
What’s next:
The group has already decided to reinvest their profit into one additional sewing machine and more materials to expand their stock — exactly the kind of community-led growth we aim to spark in every village. This progress also suggests a quilt-making initiative could take root in Kenya: the women already have the skill, structure, and a proven reinvestment track record.
Thank you:
Your support is helping women build long-term economic stability — one smart investment, one saved shilling, and one reinvested profit at a time. Thank you for walking with them.
