Powerful Women with Hip-Hop is a project carried out in Bogota, Colombia. The project is to empower 240 girls and young women. The participants are engaged in different workshop processes using expressions of rap, break dance, dance hall, and dance afro/theater, different female leaders teach them. The women in the program range between 10-30 years old, with various females emerging from conditions of high risk and vulnerability
In Colombia women and girls have been individually and collectively subject to physical, sexual, and emotional violence; displacement; discrimination; unequal opportunities; among other impediments to success and holistic well-being. Over a 50 year long armed conflict, sexual assault against women has been used as an ongoing tactic within the war. Men and women throughout Colombia continue to declare that they live in a "machismo" society, and that this can provide extremely burdensome for women
We will solve the problem throught three components: The process of 'visibilization' serves a number of functions for these girls and young women. By performing in public spaces, these females are able to confront fears and anxieties as they present their talents. Workshops are critical to the training and formation that the young women receive within the project. The project could offer some more training in the way of entrepreneurship, particularly from an artistic vantage point.
The empowerment of the girls and women in her rights, self-esteem, self-care, interpersonal skills, the prevention of all kinds of abuse and violence, citizenship participation, community living and youth public politics. Using the Hip Hop like a tool for allow her overcome hardships, because In terms of the future, the females empowered in this process will have desire to continue with the studies,grow artistically and professionally and to be a positive change for other girls.
