Intisar Al-Hammadi, a Yemeni model and actress, was sentenced to five years in prison. Her case has drawn national and international attention due to concerns regarding due process, conditions of detention, and her health status while in custody.
The Supreme Court of Yemen has upheld the original five-year prison sentence against Intisar Al-Hammadi, making the ruling final. The family submitted a petition for early release based on the completion of two-thirds of the sentence, in accordance with Yemeni law. This request was denied, citing that Ms. Al-Hammadi did not meet the legal conditions for early release.A second petition was filed, by Intesar family, emphasizing humanitarian grounds, particularly related to Ms. Al-Hammadi's deteriorating health. This petition was personally discussed with the Public Prosecutor, and it is currently under review.
While in custody, Ms. Al-Hammadi was diagnosed with a benign tumor, which required surgical removal. The surgery was performed while she remained in detention post-operative care was reportedly not provided, and her condition has since worsened, according to statements from her mother. The current petition for release highlights the urgent need for proper medical attention, citing the lack of follow-up treatment and ongoing health risks.
While concerns remain regarding both legal due process and access to medical care. the case is pending further review by the Public Prosecutor's Office.
