N.T.Y. is a single mother in Southern Shan State who earned about $600 annually from farming on leased land in her village. All of her income went to providing for her son and his education. She was selected by the women in her village to be on the Village Development Team upon Shanta Foundation partnering with her village. Through consistent mentoring and training with our team, she became an accountant for their Community Bank as well as the Farmer's Group. Then, she chose to participate in our Pig Farming income generation program and earned a profit in the first year. She is now a "pig dealer", representing all of the pig farmers in her village to sell their swine at market for a fair price. N.T.Y. is so proud of her accomplishments and now mentors other women in her village, helping them with leadership and livelihood opportunities to help them rise out of poverty forever.
"I've changed in many positive ways to take care of myself and my family, and to support the community as a woman representative. As my income has also increased, I can support my family more. All are due to the benefits of participation in village leadership with Shanta’s initiation, " she said with a bright smile.
