Business class

Mompreneurs is a business incubator to teach Latina mothers to implement business and management tools for the development, consolidation, and sustainability of their business while learning to take care of themselves and their families.

The program reached a diverse community of Latina women in Montgomery County. Snacks and childcare were provided by Women Palante. 13 students completed all the program.

BUSINESS SECTION

All program graduates successfully drafted detailed business plans, a cornerstone for any successful venture. These plans included various components such as market analysis, operational strategies, and business models. The only area identified for further development was the financial planning component, highlighting a need for enhanced financial literacy and planning skills. The program, in addition to equipping these entrepreneurs with the necessary skills, knowledge, and tools to enhance their business acumen, fostered a strong sense of community, enabling them to thrive in competitive markets. This report highlights the significant strides made by the participants in various aspects of business planning, market research, strategic changes, discipline, and community building, emphasizing the unity and support within the program. Participants conducted extensive market research, allowing them better to understand their competitors and the overall market landscape. This research was pivotal in helping them identify and understand their target audience, with several participants creating detailed customer personas to tailor their marketing and sales strategies better. A significant shift was observed in the participants' business models. Many moved from B2C (Business-to-Consumer) models to B2B (Business-to-Business) models, opening new revenue avenues. Others innovated new products and services to enhance profitability and market fit. The culmination of the program was the pitch competition, where students presented their pitches to a panel of experts and judges. Following each presentation, students received constructive feedback and insights, enabling them to refine their pitches further and enhance their presentation skills. Leading up to the competition, our students dedicated several weeks to rigorous preparation under the guidance of our dedicated tutors. Through personalized practice sessions and theoretical workshops, participants honed their pitching skills and deepened their understanding of key concepts. This collaborative endeavor fostered a sense of mutual support and solidarity among participants, exemplifying the spirit of our program. Notably, students demonstrated remarkable generosity by providing food donations for their peers, fostering a culture of reciprocity and community care. Moreover, to accommodate parents, childcare services were offered, recognizing the unique challenges faced by many moms who otherwise might not have had options for childcare during practice sessions. This holistic approach ensured that all participants could fully engage in the preparation process, irrespective of their circumstances, contributing to the inclusive and supportive environment that defines our program.

Financial Section:

The students demonstrated an understanding of the significance of attaining financial literacy for their overall well-being, encompassing the ability to effectively manage their finances by handling bills and expenses, addressing debts, preparing for unforeseen financial crises, and strategizing for the future. Throughout the program, students were provided with the opportunity to acquire knowledge on creating both business and personal budgets. Additionally, they benefited from personalized one-on-one sessions with a finance professor who offered guidance and addressed any uncertainties they encountered while navigating the financial aspects.

Legal:

The program had the privilege of collaborating with esteemed legal experts from Hughes Hubbard & Reed LLP Law Firm and DAPA Multiservices, enriching our initiative with invaluable insights into various legal aspects.

The legal session kicked off with an in-depth exploration of insurance fundamentals, providing our students with invaluable clarity on its purpose and the fundamental principles underpinning insurance contracts. By demystifying insurance terminology and processes, individuals emerged empowered to make informed decisions regarding their insurance needs.

A key highlight of the session was the discussion on the benefits of insurance for small businesses.

Wellness Accomplishments:

This report outlines a comprehensive training program designed to our students base with valuable insights into neuroscience, mindset development, psychology and effective communication strategies. By delving into the intricacies of the brain and mindset dynamics, students explored the neuroscience behind creativity, including the interplay between fixed and growth mindsets. By understanding how the brain processes creativity, individuals can unlock their full creative potential and foster innovative thinking. Throughout the program, the remarkable progress and growth achieved by the participating mothers-turned-entrepreneurs have been nothing short of inspiring. Here are some notable accomplishments:

  • Reduced Levels of Anxiety and Stress: Before the program, many participants experienced overwhelming levels of anxiety and stress as they juggle the demands of motherhood and entrepreneurship. However, through the comprehensive brain training and science-based techniques offered in the program, participants reported significant reductions in these negative emotions. Despite managing multiple responsibilities, they have learned to remain calm and composed while maintaining high levels of productivity.
  • Increased Confidence: A common challenge among the participants was a lack of confidence, particularly in public speaking and networking scenarios. Yet, through the wellness program, they not only overcame these insecurities but also thrived in such situations. From delivering compelling pitches to engaging confidently in networking events, these women have undergone a remarkable transformation. Instead of shying away from opportunities, they now actively seek out chances to refine their negotiation skills, perfect their pitches, and expand their professional networks.
  • Cultivated Resilient Mindset: Through targeted brain training and science-based techniques, participants developed a resilient mindset capable of overcoming obstacles and setbacks. Armed with a toolkit to manage stressors effectively, they embrace challenges as opportunities for growth, demonstrating a remarkable capacity to thrive amidst adversity.
  • Transformed Habits and Thinking Patterns: Participants in the program exhibited remarkable progress in changing physical, mental, and emotional habits, showcasing the efficacy of the program's strategies. Through targeted interventions, they embraced positive changes in their routines, wellness practices, and thinking patterns. This transformative journey enabled participants to cultivate healthier habits, prioritize self-care, and develop a more resilient mindset, empowering them to thrive both personally and professionally as mothers and entrepreneurs.
  • Community Building: One of the most significant outcomes of the program was the creation of a supportive and inclusive community among the participants. Initially, many reported feelings of loneliness and isolation. However, through the program, they not only found solace in sharing their fears and challenges but also discovered a network of like-minded individuals who offered invaluable support and encouragement. This sense of community not only alleviated feelings of loneliness, depression, and burnout but also fostered a collaborative environment where members could assist each other in both personal and professional endeavors.
  • Live Coaching Section: The students had a space of  life coaching where they had meetings to talk about their business with a specialist in the area where she guided them in the process and had different sessions to monitor their progress. Seven of our students made the decision to have this open space for them where they could talk freely about their personal situations and how to face the different obstacles of their business.
  • Low-cost therapy services : The program aimed at providing low-cost therapy services to our students, made possible through the Women’s Center and individual license psychotherapy. These services encompass a range of therapeutic modalities tailored to address diverse needs, ensuring that everyone can find the support they require within their means. By reducing financial barriers to therapy, the program committed to promoting mental wellness and resilience throughout our community, fostering a culture of inclusivity and support for all.
  •

Dance:

The objective was to promote the empowerment of women Latinas,  through dance, as a vehicle for physical and mental recognition. With this purpose in mind, a series of experiences is proposed focused on discovery, appropriation and expression of the body, since through this action route it was possible to enhance recognition processes. Classes on Body Expression as a Tool for Self-Knowledge offered the students a unique space to explore the connection between the body and the mind. Through specific exercises and techniques, participants had the opportunity to delve into understanding themselves, exploring how their emotions, thoughts, and experiences are reflected in their body language. From posture to gestures and movements, every aspect of the body communicates a part of our internal story. By learning to interpret and manage these signals, students could develop greater self-awareness, identifying behavior patterns, and discovering new ways of authentic expression. Through this journey of self-exploration, participants not only cultivate greater confidence and connection with their bodies but also gain valuable tools to enhance their emotional well-being and interpersonal relationships.

Yoga for Beginners: The sessions are introduction to basic yoga postures suitable for beginners. Participants were guided through the correct alignment and execution of each posture. Emphasis was placed on the benefits of each posture, including physical health, stress relief, and mental clarity.

Success Stories

Allison  - Cuna StudioMy name is Allison. One year ago, I was a new mom, struggling with postpartum depression and the chaos of rebuilding my life after leaving an abusive relationship. I've always had an entrepreneurial spirit, but at the time, my dreams were clouded by difficult life circumstances I had to overcome in the last few years. Thanks to Women Palante, I stand before you as the owner of a legally registered business and a proud member of an invaluable network of fellow entrepreneurs. To all the Latina moms out there dreaming of starting their own business but facing daunting barriers, I want to say: that you have the power within you to make your visions come to life. This community taught me that with the right tools, the right support system, and a growth mindset, we can tap into our inner power to turn our dreams into reality. This program didn't just provide me with the resources to launch my business; it gave me a space to grow, learn, and, most importantly, to believe in myself again. Therefore, to those with us today, I encourage you to be proud of the depth of your impact when supporting Women Palante. Every contribution translates into an opportunity for women like me, enabling us not just to keep dreaming, but to achieve those dreams. The path to entrepreneurship is challenging, but none of us have to do it alone. There are amazing people out there like Yurani and the team at Women Palante, ready to embrace you, support you, and lift you up. To you, our donors, and prospective donors, I extend my deepest gratitude. Your generosity doesn't just change lives; it shapes futures, empowers families, and strengthens communities. Together, we are creating a world where more women can proudly say: "I did it."

Gisselle - Fly High Balloons If I had not participated in the Women Palante classes, I sincerely believe that my business would not have reached the level of understanding and purpose it has now. It was through this program that I was able to discover the real reason for my business mission. I realized that my business was not just a business idea, but has its roots in a deep journey of self-improvement. Participating in this program allowed me to reconnect with myself in a way I had never experienced before. It allowed me to explore who I am, beyond the roles I play as a mother, daughter, wife, friend, woman, and entrepreneur. Through this process of self-examination, I understood the fundamental importance of both physical and mental well-being to continue advancing in all aspects of my life. The Women Palante program has been a turning point in my business and personal journey. It has helped me find my true purpose and recognize the importance of taking care of my well-being on the road to success. I am deeply gratefulfor this opportunity and for the growth I have experienced thanks to this group.

Dayana - Na’guara con Sabor Venezolano The concept of the "chimp brain" changed my life. I learned about emotional intelligence and self-awareness in my business and personal life. Managing my own "chimp" instincts has been crucial in navigating the challenges of entrepreneurship, maintaining a clear vision controlling the "chimp brain" to stay focused on my objectives. Winning the ssed funding allowed me to double my sales and have more brand recognition.
