Women Palante organized an event called Holistic Wellness: Finance and Health on September 16. Through this opportunity, 21 underserved Latina women discovered how to better manage their finances and develop healthy habits.
It was a full day event where these women learned practical ways to work on their self-control from a neuroscientific approach while also learning how to put their money in order.
We partnered with:
*The catering was provided for one of our entrepreneurs in Montgomery County.
It was delivered in Spanish, in our offices in Rockville, Maryland, and was open to Latinas with any immigration status in the Montgomery County community.
Objectives:
Agenda:
9 am: Finance for non-financial people
12 pm: Lunch (provided by Nonprofit Village)
1 pm: Train your brain: How to change habits and exercise self-control
3:30 pm: Yoga session
Testimonies:
There was a participant working for a cleaning company and had two (2) additional jobs. She told our CEO that she was curious about meditation and believed this event would help her alleviate her anxiety and even her way of handling money.
"Thank you very much for the invitation to today's meeting, the truth is that every time I leave WP workshops I leave with more muscles to face life in this country, a thousand blessings Mrs Yurani, may God bless Women Palante"
"Today I worked until 2:00 a.m., but since I was prepared and willing to attend this event, it was the best thing that could have happened to me. Hearing from the beneficiaries and the impact we make on them is always my favorite part".
Survey:
Women Palante ran a satisfactory survey after each workshop to find the best ways to support each beneficiary from an individualized perspective, if possible. Requesting each beneficiary to provide personal information such as name, phone, address, and email to keep in touch was mandatory.
See results attached.
Some of the participants are already registered to other programs and the CEO.
Lessons learned:
We wish we knew beforehand that some of our beneficiaries have two jobs and work very late so we should consider another time for the event, maybe in the afternoon.
Providing financial literacy and access to mental wellbeing to vulnerable populations is key to support equality, inclusion and diversity related content. Financial literacy is important to achieve financial inclusion while health literacy allows us to recommit to making sure all audiences can find, understand, and use our workshops, programs and services to make the best health-related decisions for themselves and others.
