Challenges in Mobilizing Funds for IDP Women Humanitarian Reliefs in Goma
Mobilizing funds for humanitarian projects in conflict-affected regions like Goma is undoubtedly a complex task. Here are some of the primary challenges:
1. Competition for Limited Resources:
- Global Humanitarian Crises: Numerous global crises, such as those in Syria, Ukraine, and Yemen, compete for donor attention and funding.
- Overwhelming Needs: The scale of humanitarian needs in the DRC, particularly in conflict-affected areas like Goma, is immense. This can make it difficult to secure sufficient funding for specific projects, especially those targeting marginalized groups like IDP women.
2. Security Concerns:
- Operational Challenges: Security concerns can hinder the implementation of projects, making it difficult to attract donors who may be wary of the risks involved.
- Logistical Hurdles: Insecure environments can increase logistical costs and complexities, further reducing the amount of funding available for direct aid.
3. Transparency and Accountability:
- Donor Scrutiny: Donors often require stringent accountability measures to ensure that funds are used effectively and ethically. This can be challenging in complex environments with limited infrastructure and capacity.
- Corruption Risks: Corruption and mismanagement can erode donor confidence and deter potential funding sources.

Difficulties of Fundraising report
By Leon Simwerayi | Executive director
Since have launched the online fundraising program on GlobalGiving platform, we have difficulties to mobilize more donors
We have difficult to get more donations, expect the one, so it is difficult for us to start any activities for this project
We keep mobilizing more donations that we allow us to get some fund to implement activities
The situation of IDPs remain in crisis
GOMA IDPs Humanitarian Crisis:
- Displacement: Ongoing conflict has forced over 1.2 million people to flee their homes in North Kivu and seek refuge in Goma, straining resources.
- Overcrowded Camps: Existing IDP camps are overflowing, leading to poor sanitation, lack of shelter, and increased risk of disease.
- Food Shortages: The influx of people has pushed food prices up, making it difficult for families to obtain enough to eat.
- Violence: There have been reports of violence within the camps, further traumatizing displaced people, particularly women and children.
The Need for Support:
- Emergency Relief: Food, water, sanitation facilities, and medical care are urgently needed to prevent further suffering and outbreaks of disease.
- Shelter: More tents and tarpaulins are needed to provide basic protection from the elements.
- Security: Measures are needed to ensure the safety of displaced people within the camps.
- Long-Term Solutions: Support for rebuilding livelihoods and eventual return (when safe) to their homes is crucial.
