A Very Happy New Year to all! During the last quarter we had lots of major events and celebrations with the support of corporates and volunteers. The festive quarter started with Diwali celebration and ended with Christmas and New Year celebrations. Hope you will enjoy reading the article.
Diwali Celebrations at Setu: All the staff members of Setu celebrated Diwali with fun and joy at Setu. Rangoli, Prayers, Prasad, Kirtan, Dance , Food and finally Gifting to top it up the diya lighting at the school.
With the Special Ones: Setu Trustees Ravi Kaul and Sanjina Wali in the company of the special, honored to have spent time with Silver Medalist Deepa Malik from India and Gold Medalist Curtis McGrath - Athlete from Australia at the Disability-Inclusive Showcase event at Australian High Commission
Activities at the Special Skill Center
IT Skills exam for Special need students: Another First at Setu - 8 specially-abled students underwent assessment and completed their examination in Basic IT skills. The assessment was conducted by our Associates NIIT Foundation.
Special Need Students day out with Employees of NTT Data: The students of Setu Centre for Special needs were invited for an event by the employees of NTT Data Noida. The students mesmerized the employees with their performance and also enjoyed the performance given by the employees. The students also partied and also received gifts as a token of appreciation.

Diwali Celebrations - Setu Centre for People with Special Needs: The students and staff of the Setu Skill Centre for People with special needs celebrated a Green Diwali - Rangoli, Skits, Dance performances and finally eats , Lot of Joy and Fun
Children’s Day Celebrations - "Project Saamaan”: Students with Special needs performed Skits, Dances, played games and had a lot of fun and food on children's day. It was a first for most of them and they really enjoyed the event.
Convocation Ceremony for People with Disabilities: Seventy two Students were handed over certificates at a convocation held at the Setu Centre for People with Special Needs. The Certificates were handed over by Mr. Heman Sabharwal along with Preeti Khattar from PricewaterhouseCoopers Pvt. Ltd. The ceremony was preceded by a cultural performance by the students and concluded with Xmas Celebrations with Santa Handing over gifts to the students present.
Activities at SETU Vocational Skill Center
A new experience for Setu Skill students: Setu Students volunteer at the National Championship of World Robotics Olympiad - a learning experience with a difference.
Runway Jaipur ... We take off: A Humble beginning towards making a difference - Project Saksham starts at Jaipur . First batch of the tailoring course launched at Setu.
Setu Convocation Ceremony: Ninety eight students were awarded certificates at Setu in the streams of Basic IT and Tailoring. Under Project "Pragati" At the Setu Skill Centre, Behrampur, Ghaziabad, 79 students were handed over Under Project "Saksham" at the Setu Skill Centre, Sadarpur, Noida, 18 students were empowered and certificated. All these 18 students have also been placed into Jobs. At another convocation ceremony at Setu 97 students were awarded certificates on completion of their courses in Hospitality and Beauty & Wellness. The certificates were distributed by our Trustee Sanjina Wali.
Launch of Pearl Setu Basic Fashion Design Course: Mr. J. K. Dadoo Additional Secretary and Financial Adviser, Ministry of Commerce and Ministry of Textile, Govt. of India inaugurated the first batch of the Basic Fashion Design course at Setu. He interacted with the students and shared his views with the audience. Also present on the occasion was Sunita Konwar from PEARL ACADEMY and Ravi Kaul and Sanjina Wali Trustees of Setu.
Guest Lecture for "Saksham“ Projects Students: Niharika Dubey, Mehak Arora and Komal Bhalla from MetLife GOSC conducted a guest lecture for the current Students at the Multi Skill Centre at Sadarpur. A first experience for the Students in Resume writing.
Guest Lecture for DAP Students - Project Pragati: The students at the Setu Multi Skill centre Berhampur, Ghaziabad went thru two guest lectures in Tailoring and Communication skills conducted by the Trustees - Sanjina Wali and Ravi Kaul respectively
Health Camps and Blood Donation Camps: A Dental Camp Checkup camp was organized at Nithari, and general health Checkup camp was organized on 23rd Nov for local residents and for the students of Berhampur, Ghaziabad. This type of health checkup camps help in creating awareness among community. It also helped GDA – Health Care course students to gain practical experience.
Rakht Daan - Jeevan Daan: In this quarter we have organized blood donation camps at different locations. Employees of Fidelity International, Metlife –Jaipur, Donated blood for the needy at a Voluntary Blood donation Camp organised by Setu.
Success Stories:
1. Vickey belongs from a middle class family. He is 12th pass. He wants to become independent, and to do so he needs a good job. But being only 12th pass and no technical knowledge, he was not able to get good job. Then, he came to know about the SteP Programme and its benefits for the underprivileged youths through our mobilization. He enrolled himself for smile course to fulfill his basic requirements of skills which is important for finding a good job. After successful completion of this course he got a job of Associate Trainee at Divine state with salary of Rs 12000 per month.
His father is doing a job. His family’s annual income is Rs. 180,000/- which is sufficient to fulfill the basic need of a family of 5 members. But he always has a dream of being independent and does his higher studies himself, without family support. His mother is a homemaker and sibling is still studying.
He is very hard working and dedicated boy, who always remain eager to learn new things and try to improve his skills. After joining the computer course he learns to type with speed of 20 wpm. He also improves his soft skills during this course which in turn helped him to get this job. In addition he also got knowledge of personality development which helps him to improve his personality.
He is very happy with his job as Associate Trainee at Divine state with salary of Rs 12000 per month and becomes responsible and independent after this job.
Khushnuda belongs from a poor family. She is 12th pass and currently pursuing graduation. She always wants to become independent and help her family for betterment. So, she wanted to do a job and earn for being independent as well as for improvement of her family’s condition. But she wasn’t available to find a job after completing 12th. Then, she came to know about the SteP Program and its benefits for the underprivileged youths through our mobilization. She enrolled herself for smile course to fulfill her basic requirements of skills which is important for finding a good job. After successful completion of this course she grab job of Teacher at Saksham School with salary of Rs 5000 per month.
Her father is no more. Her mother is housewife. Her elder brother is the sole bread earner for the family of 7 members. Her annual family income is Rs. 120,000/- which is insufficient to fulfill the basic need of a family of 7 members. It was hard for her brother to take care of her family and also giving her money for higher education. She wants to support her brother. She was very weak girl but always try to learn new things and improve her skills. After joining the computer course she learnt to type with speed of 20 wpm.
