Project Saksham – Empowering Women at Setu Skill centres
Skill centre continued with their online training. In this quarter 419 students enrolled in different courses. Students have started visiting the centre on rotational basis. Now classes are being conducted in blended model (online and offline).
At Setu Skill Centre for Special Needs Students an online Indian Sign Language course was launched. The objective of the course is to make it available for the community especially for the family member of Hearing Impaired person. Currently we have six enrolments in the course.
Online classes: Many students are not comfortable in visiting the centre so for them we have online classes. Trainers are coming regularly to the centre since courses like sewing, Beauty and GDA require practical demonstration.
At Setu Skill Centre for Special Needs all courses are taught online, as parents are not comfortable in sending their children.
SHG CENTER AT JAIPUR
We started a new SHG center at Jobner, main market, Boraj Jaipur in July 2020. This is Setu’s first rural center. Initially Setu installed 5 sewing machine to start the self-help group. 10 students enrolled for the course. Trainer is our beneficiary who did sewing completed her sewing course from Setu centre. She will provide training to 20 students per quarter. After successful completion of course, an examination will be held and successful students will get certificate.
Mask Making During this tough time of COVID-19 sewing students continued their services and helped in creating face masks for needy’ in short period of time.
New center at Jaipur : We have also started new center at Lalya ka Bas, Village Mahapura Jaipur with the support of Metlife GOSC. We had enrolled 30 students in this month. It’s a good start for the new location.
Success stories
Meet Jyoti who belongs to a lower middle class family. She wanted to learn Beauty & Wellness and support her family financially. After completing 12th she searched for a suitable job but everywhere the demand of skills let her down. So she decided to learn Beauty & Wellness skills at SETU. After completing the course she started working on her own. Now she is working with Makeover Noida, Sec 18 and earning Rs.3000/- per month.
She belongs to a family with 4 members. Her husband works in a private firm with an annual income of about Rs.1,08,000. It is difficult to meet the expenses of daily needs as well as the educational needs of two children in the family along with parents. Jyoti wanted to share her husband’s responsibilities. Moreover she also wanted to be independent. Her family’s annual income increased by 33%.
Anita is a very hardworking women and wanted to become independent.Therefore, she enrolled herself for sewing course so that she can learn basic concepts and equipment used in her profession which is important for finding a good job. After successful completion of sewing course from SETU she works as a tailorat home and earns Rs 5000/Month.
Her Husband works in Private Sector. Her family’s annual income is Rs. 2,15,000/- which is insufficient to fulfill the basic need of a family of 4 members. She always wants to improve her family’s financial condition. So she joined this course. Her annual family income has increased by 28%.
