Empowering Women Through Skills and Support

By Julia Matthew | Managing Director

Dear Friend,

El Shaddai remains committed to empowering underprivileged women in Goa by providing them with practical skills, knowledge, confidence, and opportunities to build more secure and independent futures. Our approach focuses on strengthening women’s abilities so they can contribute to their families, access livelihood opportunities, and participate more actively in their communities. During the reporting period, skill development remained a key focus of our women’s empowerment initiatives. Women were encouraged to develop practical, vocational, communication, interpersonal, and basic financial skills that can support employment and income-generating opportunities. Through guidance and encouragement, women were helped to recognise their abilities, build confidence, and explore pathways towards greater economic independence.

Life-skills (Computers, Beautician,  Macrame, embroidery, tailoring) development was also an important component. Women participated in sessions that strengthened communication, decision-making, problem-solving, self-confidence, financial awareness, and knowledge of their rights and responsibilities. These skills help women make informed choices, manage challenges, and become more self-reliant. El Shaddai also supported women in understanding and accessing available livelihood opportunities. Women were encouraged to explore employment, vocational training, and small-scale income-generating activities according to their interests and circumstances. Greater economic independence can improve household stability and help families meet essential needs such as food, healthcare, and children’s education.

Alongside skill development, awareness sessions covered personal safety, women’s rights, health, hygiene, nutrition, preventive healthcare, and government welfare schemes. Vulnerable women were supported in accessing healthcare, counselling, essential services, and appropriate assistance. El Shaddai worked with families, community leaders, schools, local authorities, and other stakeholders to create safer and more supportive environments for women and their children.

Through these efforts, El Shaddai continues to help women move from vulnerability towards confidence, skills, dignity, independence, and hope, creating positive and lasting change for families and communities.

With gratitude,

The El Shaddai Family
