Dear Donors,
Women’s empowerment in India is centred on strengthening the position of women across social, economic, and political spheres to achieve equality and respect. It includes efforts such as improving access to education and healthcare, encouraging financial independence, and introducing legal measures to combat discrimination and gender-based violence.
The broader objective is to help women make their own decisions, actively contribute to society, and break down long-standing gender barriers. At El Shaddai, our mission is to empower women by creating supportive and secure environments. Through our shelters, community centres, and homes, we offer not just protection, but also opportunities for personal growth and a better future. Women are enrolled in a wide range of educational and vocational training programs like tailoring, mehendi, crochet, and more. These initiatives help women gain valuable skills, empowering them to rise above generational poverty and become contributors to their families and communities.
We have many motivating stories of these underprivileged women who decided not to give up and stand for themselves and for their families. One such resilient woman is Azeema (name changed), who lives in a small rented house in the Chimbel slum area. This family is originally from Karnataka. Her husband was working as a labourer. He found it very difficult to support his family. Through field work, she came to know that our centre is has women empowerment programs. Soon she enrolled her for vocational tailoring. She completed her six-month tailoring course in our centre. She learnt different types of stitching clothes like baby clothes, zabla, chudidar, blouses, skirts, school uniforms, etc. Now she has become a perfect tailor. And now she is taking orders for stitching. She is standing on her own feet. She is helping her family financially. And she is taking care of her children's education. She is very happy that our centre has allowed her to learn the tailoring course.
Many such women have been able to change their lives for the better by using these skills and creating jobs not just for themselves but for others, too. The journey of underprivileged women in Goa is one of struggle and hope. By providing education, economic opportunities, and a supportive environment, we can ensure that these women lead empowered and dignified lives.
We express our gratitude for your kind sponsorship towards aiding these women in transforming their lives to a better one.
Your support has made a huge impact, and we are incredibly grateful.
With gratitude,
El Shaddai Charitable Trust!
