The Haitian Women's Collective (HWC) gathers women led organizations in Haiti to increase the effectiveness of their local projects by providing support in training, increasing technical capacity and building skills of the leaders at the forefront. We do this through community based/service gap assessment; leadership training, effective networking, developing tools, and developing an advocacy agenda to make a difference in the lives of women and girls; supporting communities.
Women's needs in Haiti are inherently the needs of all communities. However, the increase in sexual assault, rape, maternal mortality rates, low employment and girls not completing secondary education are indicators of gender inequality and abuse of women and all are enhanced by the significant levels of poverty. Women led groups need consistent support to focus on human rights, addressing their needs and engaging in their respective communities to move a diverse agenda of equity forward.
HWC is designed with the goal of solidarity among Haitian women lead organizations bringing needed educational, health, and civic engagement opportunities to local communities. With a focus on capacity building, training and advocacy, HWC uses effective networking, providing access to related opportunities while assessing and documenting service delivery to allow for increased awareness. We are working to build an advocacy agenda to ensure the voice of our Haitian members are effectively heard.
The potential long-term impact of HWC will allow for more women led organizations to benefit from an effective network to build their capacity, increasing their knowledge and related opportunities to enhance their delivery of services and access to funding with a focus on data collection, highlighting service delivery and sustainability by Haitian, women lead organizations. We foresee growing our network of partners across the country and focusing in the US on advocacy.
