Right now, while human rights are under increased threat in the U.S. and around the world, people are reaching for technology in their effort to fight back. And WITNESS is powering up these people, especially marginalized communities, to use video and technology to protect and defend human rights so that they can amplify their voices and expose the truth. We believe anyone can stand up and act for human rights.
After the November 2016 U.S. election, hate crimes have soared across the country and the truth has been clouded by "fake news" and "alternative facts." People have been turning to their mobile phones to document the turmoil and resistance movements around them. But many videos are unverifiable, lost in a sea of content or put the filmer and subjects at risk.
WITNESS equips activists with the skills and tools they need to document safely, ethically, and effectively, so that their videos can stand the test of time and lead to justice. We work with partners and grassroots movements to identify how they can best use video and develop custom resources so they can make the most impact. We're making it possible for anyone, anywhere to use video and technology to protect and defend human rights.
WITNESS wants human rights to be in everyone's hands. Equipped with our tools and resources, anyone will be able to document human rights violations effectively and create real change. Anyone will be able to be an active witness.
