In the serene, snow-covered valleys of Bagh, Azad Kashmir, we met Areeba—a 10-year-old Deaf girl with an infectious smile and a quiet resilience far beyond her years. Her world is mostly silent, not just because she cannot hear, but because the community around her often doesn’t understand or engage with her. Her mother shared that, due to the harsh winter and lack of warm clothing, Areeba hadn’t stepped outside their home for several weeks. She missed school, playtime, and even family visits—isolated by both the weather and the lack of inclusive support.
When DWAF visited her village as part of our Winter Drive, everything changed. We wrapped Areeba in a soft, warm jacket, handed her a colorful care package, and spent time with her family, listening—really listening—to their story. Her smile, once hidden, returned brighter than ever. Her mother’s eyes filled with tears as she told us it was the first time in months someone had come just to see Areeba, not to pity her, but to uplift her.
This is just one of countless stories that unfolded during our visit. From young Deaf children to elderly persons with disabilities, we witnessed a shared need—not just for blankets or jackets, but for compassion, understanding, and visibility. Many families live in silence, not from choice, but because their voices are unheard in a society that still struggles to include them.
Thanks to your generosity, DWAF was able to distribute winter packages, build emotional connections, and begin long-term follow-ups with the families we met. At the AED Center of Special Education, we also engaged with teachers and students, sparking new partnerships to strengthen special needs education in the region. Every package delivered carried warmth—but every visit carried hope.
This winter, your support has not only protected lives—it has reminded people like Areeba that they matter, that they belong, and that they are not forgotten. Together, we are not just delivering aid—we are building a more inclusive and compassionate Pakistan.
