Winter & Street Children

In Afghanistan, ongoing economic hardships force many children to work on the streets to help their families meet basic needs, making them among the most vulnerable, especially during harsh weather. During the winter season, Aseel launched a targeted distribution campaign to support these street-working children, providing assistance to over 100 children during both winter and summer. The aid packages included essential food items such as flour, rice, cooking oil, and beans, along with seasonal clothing. In winter, children received boots, jackets, socks, jumpers, and warm trousers, helping protect them from cold conditions. These distributions not only improved immediate living conditions but also supported children’s health, well-being, and dignity during the most difficult seasons of the year.

One of the families reached by this program, the family of Mursal, had recently returned from Pakistan after years of displacement. Mursal’s mother, once skilled in embroidery, now lacked the tools to work and support her family, while his father, a former engine repairer, needed medical care and basic tools to return to work. Despite these challenges, Mursal shared his quiet hope: “One day, I want to become a teacher, so children like us won’t feel forgotten.” His words reflect the resilience and aspirations of countless children who are waiting for a chance. Through initiatives like these, Aseel is not only meeting urgent needs but also nurturing hope, ensuring vulnerable children are seen, heard, and supported.

Since 2021, Aseel has been actively supporting children in need by providing essential services such as food assistance, healthcare, and education. A significant portion of this support is targeted towards street children, who face particularly harsh conditions. Through a proximity-based approach, Aseel has been able to reach and support over 60,000 children. This initiative aims to address the immediate needs of vulnerable children while fostering long-term development opportunities. Campaign Overview Aseel's campaign to assist children is rooted in the belief that proximity and local engagement are critical for effective aid distribution. By operating closely with communities and deploying rapid response teams, Aseel ensures that food, healthcare, and educational support are delivered efficiently to the most vulnerable children. In order to expand these efforts, Aseel has launched a campaign on GlobalGiving. The aim is to raise funds that will allow Aseel to reach more street children, offering them not only immediate support in terms of food and healthcare but also long-term educational opportunities. The campaign highlights the critical needs of street children, who are often excluded from traditional aid structures due to their transient lifestyles. Through this initiative, Aseel plans to: Scale up food distribution to children in urban areas. Increase healthcare units dedicated to treating children who live on the streets. Create more educational centers that provide learning opportunities tailored to the unique challenges faced by street children. With the launch of the GlobalGiving campaign, Aseel is poised to expand its impact further, with the goal of doubling the number of children supported over the next two years.
