TN Wildfire Disaster Relief Report

By Rachael Ellis | Corporate Relations

On February 4, 2017 Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee sent a Mobile Pantry to Richardson's Cove Food Pantry that is in the heart of where the TN Wildfire Diaster occured.  This is only one example of the many Mobile Pantries that Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee has sent out and will continue to send to the wildfire diaster relief area.

A Mobile Pantry acts as a temporary hunger relief site at one of our partner agencies such as a church or non-profit organization that does not have a full time hunger relief program.  A tractor trailer load of food is delieverd to a site (often a parking lot) and the food is handed out by Second Harvest staff and volunteers to those in the local community that need it.

This particular Mobile Pantry was placed in an area where those in need could walk up or drive to and volunteers loaded their cars full of food and other products they might need for diaster relief.  We served 1,900 people in a few hours.  This Mobile Pantry consisted of 20,000 lbs of food that included:

  • Beef Soup
  • Vegetable Soup
  • Macaroni & Cheese
  • Cans of Tuna
  • Cans of Chicken
  • Black Beans
  • Beef Stew
  • Green Beans
  • Pediasure
  • Ensure
  • Corn
  • Peaches
  • Protein Bars
  • Cleaning supplies
