Every coral has a role to play in rebuilding our reefs. At White River Fish Sanctuary, coral restoration is more than planting fragments. It takes months of careful nursery maintenance, monitoring, propagation, and underwater restoration work. Our goal is to support 10 coral nursery trees over nine months, carrying out 58 planned restoration dives to help give our corals the care they need. From adopting a single coral to sponsoring an entire nursery tree, every contribution supports Jamaica'
Over the past three years, Jamaica has reportedly lost 90% of its Acroporid corals, including staghorn and elkhorn, which are vital reef-building species. Rising ocean temperatures, bleaching, disease, and storms continue to threaten these essential habitats. As reefs continue to decline, marine biodiversity, fish populations, coastal protection, and the livelihoods of fishing and tourism-dependent communities are increasingly at risk. Climate change won't slow down for us, but we can still act.
Through Adopt a Coral Jamaica, White River Fish Sanctuary aims to restore 1,000 corals across 10 underwater nursery trees over nine months. Our team will carry out 58 restoration dives to propagate, nurture, and monitor coral growth before transplanting healthy corals onto degraded reefs. With your support, we can actively rebuild vital marine habitats and contribute to the recovery of Jamaica's coral reefs.
By restoring coral populations, this project aims to rebuild essential reef habitats, support marine biodiversity, and strengthen the resilience of Jamaica's coastal ecosystems. Healthier reefs provide shelter for marine life, support local fisheries and tourism, and help protect shorelines from erosion. Each coral restored contributes to a larger goal: ensuring Jamaica's reefs remain vibrant and productive for generations to come.
