Wheels of Life. Neonatal Ambulance Impact Report

Project Overview

Due to ongoing hostilities and the stressful conditions of war in Ukraine, the number of preterm births has been rising. This has created an urgent need for medical solutions to transport newborns requiring immediate care. The project aims to reduce infant mortality and ensure timely medical assistance by delivering specialized neonatal ambulances to frontline areas and medical facilities across Ukraine.

Covered Regions and Equipped Facilities

Over the past year, medical equipment has been delivered to 9 regions of Ukraine:

Kyiv Region – 3 hospitals, 12 incubators
Sumy Region – 1 hospital, 1 incubator
Chernihiv Region – 1 hospital, 1 incubator
Mykolaiv Region – 2 hospitals, 8 medical units
Dnipropetrovsk Region – 1 hospital, 2 incubators
Cherkasy Region – 1 hospital, 1 incubator
Zaporizhzhia Region – 1 hospital, 1 incubator
Odesa Region – 1 hospital, 2 syringe infusion pumps

Total Equipment Delivered

1 phototherapy lamp
1 ventilator
2 syringe infusion pumps

Project Achievements Over the Past Year

Coverage of Key Regions: The project has provided medical equipment and neonatal transport solutions to 8 critical regions in Ukraine, including frontline areas with severely damaged infrastructure and limited access to healthcare.
Support for Hospitals: Around 11 hospitals across Ukraine have received essential equipment, enabling them to treat more patients and reduce neonatal mortality rates.
Delivery of 2 Neonatal Ambulances: These specialized vehicles have been deployed in frontline regions, where medical resources are scarce. They ensure the safe transportation of newborns to specialized healthcare facilities for urgent treatment. Each ambulance can complete hundreds of life-saving missions annually.
Impact on Over 5,000+ Patients: The project has provided life-saving assistance to thousands of newborns in need of critical medical care.

Success Stories & Long-Term Impact

This initiative is part of a broader strategy to provide life-saving care for children in Ukraine and to establish a sustainable healthcare system capable of addressing preterm births and other medical emergencies. The project is expected to significantly reduce neonatal mortality rates and strengthen Ukraine’s healthcare system for vulnerable infants. By implementing innovative medical solutions, it will not only save thousands of lives but also create a long-term emergency care network.

Remaining Funding Needed

To complete the project, an additional $139,727 is required. These funds will be used to purchase more neonatal ambulances and medical equipment for new healthcare facilities.
