Wellness Education for Elderly with Disabilities

Thank you to our generous GlobalGiving donors for supporting Chimes Israel’s Health & Wellness Program. Your contributions are helping older adults with cognitive disabilities remain healthier, more independent, and engaged as they age.

The program is now fully operational at our centers in Kfar Saba, Rosh HaAyin, and Tayibe. During the first half of the reporting period, 67 individuals participated in 34 structured activities. The program combines education with hands-on experiences in nutrition, personal hygiene, physical activity, personal safety, technology, and other skills that participants can use in their daily lives. 

We have also expanded activities that support emotional well-being, particularly important during this difficult period in Israel. Participants have taken part in gardening, art and theater, music, walking groups, medical clowning, and activities designed to reduce stress and anxiety. 

Most importantly, we are beginning to see the program make a difference in participants’ daily lives. Through hands-on nutrition workshops, participants learn to make healthier food choices and prepare simple, nutritious foods. Physical activity and walking groups encourage them to move more and stay active, while gardening and other group activities build confidence, social connection, and a sense of accomplishment. These practical experiences help participants develop healthier routines while maintaining their independence as they age.

We are measuring progress through accessible pre- and post-program surveys as well as staff observations, looking at changes in participants’ knowledge, habits, emotional well-being, social connections, and daily routines.
