“I have appreciated discovering the power of online actions, especially the possibility of having a virtual team. Initially, geographical distance was a huge setback, which discouraged some of our initiatives as a team. Today, the scenarios we envision are more. We have access to a wider network with the many more people we can henceforth connect with, whom we may not get to by using traditional means. And our voice will be louder.” -- Elvire, World Pulse community member from Cameroon who completed the Intro to Digital Empowerment Training
We are happy to share that we completed our first Intro to Digital Empowerment Training! This 3-week online training is designed to provide women with the technical skills in using digital communication to increase personal impact in their communities. As we shared earlier, this training is the result of listening to our community members and what they are asking for so that they can have greater impact in their local communities as well as globally.
More than 250 women expressed interest in participating in this first training and close to a quarter of them actively engaged with the training modules. Among the most impactful parts of the training that participants reported on were connecting with fellow women from around the world and learning from their experiences, working on assessing and mapping personal and community assets as well as learning technical skills for how to use social media and digital communications more effectively.
Given the success and interest, we decided to offer this training one more time this year. The next round of Intro to Digital Empowerment Training is underway now and will be wrapping up in early December.
This training is a prerequisite for applying for our signature training – Voices of Our Future, which will start in late January. Voices of Our Future is an opportunity for women to learn and work together in a more intimate environment to catalyze their vision and leadership. We will be selecting 30 women from across the globe for this incredible opportunity, and can’t wait to share their stories with you.
Our cohort of young women in Nigeria has been steadily growing through our partnership of the Women and the Web Alliance. These young women are attending digital literacy training, and bringing us their passion, visions for change, and excitement to connect with fellow women globally. Each of them is able to connect with our top leaders and to access personalized training to support her on her journey. More than 600 women have joined our network since August, and we anticipate this number to continue to grow.
Thank you for reading this report and for your dedicated support to our work and the thousands of women leaders in the World Pulse community. Wishing you warm and peaceful holidays!
