New Campus Update: October, 2025

By Jose Pablo Rojas-Brewer | Development Director

Dear Community,

Thanks to your continued support, the last four months have brought significant progress in preparing for the next construction phase. Now that the infrastructure project is complete and we have laid a solid foundation for what will become UWC Costa Rica’s new home, we are entering a key stage of strategic planning ahead of constructing our new campus buildings. This phase focuses on technical, financial, and logistical preparations, all of which are essential to ensuring the project is carried out to the highest standards of quality, safety, and sustainability.

If you’ve been following along through our monthly newsletters, we hope they’ve helped you stay informed and connected to the project. If you missed any, you can always subscribe or catch up here: https://united.uwccostarica.org

Here is a summary of the key achievements since July 2025:

Construction Update

  • Strengthening Our Team for the Next Phase:  We are excited to share that, for this final construction phase, ICC Construction Project Management has been selected to support UWC Costa Rica in building the new campus. As our collaboration with CVG Construction Management comes to a close, we want to express our sincere gratitude for their guidance and support through key processes.
  • Preparation for Building Construction:  As we transition between project management teams and complete the necessary preparations, construction will pause until the beginning of 2026. This step is essential to ensure the project moves forward smoothly and is completed with the quality we have envisioned from the start.
  • Construction in Wood:  A few months ago, we signed a contract with Ingelam, a leading Chilean company specializing in construction-grade wood, for our new campus. In September, the first shipment of wood arrived in Costa Rica, marking a significant milestone and bringing us one step closer to seeing the structure of our new campus take shape.
  • Bioproduction Center: We are currently designing the Bioproduction Center, a space within the new campus construction site dedicated to cultivating native plants through a greenhouse system. Following the project’s reforestation plan and recommendations from landscape consultant TPA, these plants will support landscaping and reforestation efforts across the campus.

San Isidro Community Engagement

  • Building Strong Community Connections: Our Co-curricular and Sustainability Teams are collaborating with Santa Cecilia School, the local Technical Professional High School, and Matzú (a women-led organization in San Isidro that fosters local development and community connection). Together, we are engaging students in activities such as Community Action Days, Model United Nations, thematic weeks, and sports events.
  • Internship Opportunity: We recently welcomed two graphic design students from San Isidro’s Technical Professional High School for an internship with our Marketing and Communications Team. This experience not only supports the student’s professional growth but also opens new opportunities for collaboration between our institutions.
  • Independence Day Parade: Thanks to the kind invitation from the San Isidro Municipality, UWC Costa Rica participated in the Independence Day Parade for the third consecutive year, marching through the streets of this beautiful community. This participation ensures that our students can proudly represent their cultures by wearing the traditional costumes of their home countries.

We are grateful to have you with us every step of the way. Every contribution helps us transform our vision into a reality, creating a space that empowers future agents of change from around the world.

Let’s keep building the future of UWC Costa Rica together!

With deep appreciation,

Jose Pablo Rojas-Brewer
Development Director, UWC Alum, and proud Donor
