This project will improve access to high quality, hands on learning activities for 40+ children in the community of San Andres Itzapa, Guatemala which will equip them with future ready skills, help them unlock their potential as well as help them to form attainable dreams, goals and ambitions for their futures.
Educational inequality is a continuous problem in Guatemala. Children from low income families attend overcrowded and under resourced public schools while more privileged children have access to high quality, private education. Public school closures over a period of 3 years due to Covid only increased educational inequality in Guatemala. This project aims to lessen the educational gap between low income Guatemalan children and their priveleged counterparts in both Guatemala and abroad.
By providing low income Guatemalan children with access to high quality, hands on learning activities we will lessen the educational gap. For the 2023 academic year, we offer the following courses: Elements of Art, Art History, Saturday Montessori as well as a Homework Club.
Hands on learning activities are not only more fun and engaging, allowing children to better absorb and remember what they are learning, but they also encourage interaction with nature, allow exploration of the 5 senses, engage multiple areas of the brain and promote the development of fine motor skills, which will help the children of San Andres Itzapa unlock their full potential.
