We are pleased to report that after a trying year politically in Nicaragua, the education system has returned to its full time regular schedule across the country. Our students are pleased to have been able to apply their renewed focus to their studies over the past 3 months and are looking forward to wrapping up this year in early December. They are all locked in studying for their finals now and completing their final reports. We are proud of their dedication and focus through this trying period for Nicaragua.
We are expecting final grades reports prior to the next quarterly report and look forward to sharing them with all of you.
We are also excited to announce that we have a huge graduating class coming out of our high school this year. We are expecting about 40 students, which again is an excellent number, given the tough year we have all experienced. We are accepting scholarship applications from this group as well and if funding allows we look forward to adding an additional 5-10 students to our scholarship program for the 2019 academic year.
We thank you all for your ongoing generosity and support.

Our 2018 Scholarship Award Recipients
The last few months have been very trying in Nicaragua but thankfully the crisis in Nicaragua has begin to calm and classes have resumed across the country including in Leon, where many of our students attend University. It is difficult at times to really understand the severity of the crisis, and we know that there is a tremendous amount of work and healing that needs to occur before Nicaraguans can move forward, but we also know that the value of education is needed now more than ever in Nicaragua. We have to continue to support these students as they are the future and they are the ones who will lead to a better tomorrow for all.
Our program currently consists of 20 students but we do plan to expand this to 25 or even 30 students when the next academic year begins in February. Our current group has been asked to provide their most recent academic results as soon as possible so we do hope to share that during our next project report.
When they picked up their scholarship money in August many asked that we share their gratitude for your support and love for Nicaragua.
Thanks for believing in our students and the work we do!

Waves of Hope Scholarship Program - Spring Update

The march for democracy and justice
As many of you know Nicaragua is going through a very difficult period of transition led by a student population that is very upset with the policies and practices of its government that has illegally held onto power for 12+ years. The country and students are fed up and are demanding change but the government has not shown any signs of being open to this and has met the peaceful protests with violence and arrogance. This has led to many injured students and some tragically have lost their lives.
We met last Friday with our students. The meeting was primarily held to do some initial prep work for a leadership training course that they are going to be participating in this August for 2 weeks but the conversation quickly shifted to current events. Thankfully none of our students are involved in the protests as we live far away from the areas being affected but they do stand behind their fellow students and are also calling for change.
University classes have been cancelled by most univerisities for now until there is a resolution but some of our students remain in classes. We are hoping this comes to quick resolution and peaceful resolution that leads to a better future for all soon.
