This project will build a solar-powered water well in Binde for 50 smallholder female farmers, enabling them to grow vegetables year-round through an efficient irrigation system. Additionally, it will provide reliable access to clean drinking water for the entire community.
In Burkina Faso, the lack of reliable water sources for irrigation significantly limits farmers' ability to grow crops year-round. They are dependent on just three to four months of rain each year, which restricts their agricultural productivity and income potential. This seasonal limitation not only affects food security but also perpetuates poverty among smallholder female farmers who are crucial to their families' well-being.
By enabling 50 women to extend their growing season and income through year-round vegetable cultivation, you will significantly increase agricultural productivity and household earning. Additionally, this initiative will provide access to clean drinking water for a community of 5,000, thereby reducing waterborne illnesses and improving overall health. Furthermore, it will help keep girls in school by minimizing the time spent collecting water, ultimately leading to improved educational outcome.
The increased agricultural productivity and income will enhance food security and economic stability. Access to clean water will lead to better health outcomes, reducing healthcare costs and improving quality of life. Keeping girls in school will result in higher educational attainment, empowering the next generation with the skills and knowledge needed for continued development and prosperity.
