Genesis Foundation benefits more than 14.000 children in Colombia who live in vulnerable circumstances. We have presence in Choco, a very vulnerable area including indigenous communities that don't have access to clean water. Genesis Foundation organizes a campaign: Walking for Water, to buy filters to supply the early childhood centers with clean water. As simple as a filter to change and improve health conditions, besides the educational strategies.
In Choco 82% of the population live without the basic needs, as access to clean water. Diarrhea is the principal cause of mortality of children under 5 years old. Although they live in the jungle and water is abundat, they do not have access to clean water and most of the rivers are contamined by illegal minnery that spills mercury on water sources.
We are buying water filters that exceed the requirements established by the WHO. They can provide clean water for 100 people every day and have two storage tanks. They work with turbid water and do not require batteries or electricity to work. This is the best way to provide these communities with clean water and improve their health conditions. It also allows Genesis Foundation to invest money that is destined to transport water tanks in other issues such as education and children care.
From 2014 to 2016 we have bought to buy 34 filters who have benefited almost 4.000 children from 0 to 5 years. Mortality under this ages has reduced and children who have access to clean water, have access to clean food and are better disposed for learning, playing and have better lifes.
