By Dr Antony Kingsley | CEO
In January 2024 the CEO of WellFound, Dr Antony Kingsley, embarked on a visit to Sierra Leone to evaluate the success of previous projects, consider new programmes and keep in touch with communities and support networks.
WellFound has met all their commitments in Sierra Leone this year and the CEO was able to visit the following villages to witness the impact created by the team in Sierra Leone.
The feedback he obtained from the visits was immense. It was particularly great to see many villages have flourishing market gardens and are introducing new vegetables as well as tending to groundnut cultivation. He was also impressed with the dedication shown by the villagers in maintaining the wells and facilities.
In one village WellFound was able to test a submersible solar pump for future development.
For the future it is important for the villagers to learn more agricultural techniques as well as techniques to improve resilience to climate changes.
Once a community has been identified for a WellFound project, we ask them to demonstrate their commitment either through regular saving or by allocating human resources to support the work. Villages should be able to prove their commitment to the project prior to engagement. During this visit, to our surprise, we had a very positive experience in Rogbora which is a potential new village for us. Without even being asked, an elderly men went inside his house and returned with a book of names and some money, saying “We know WellFound wants our commitment before they start their work. We made our efforts to start gathering some money to show our commitment”. The message is powerful.
