Dear supporters, family and friends of Serendipity,
With your support, Serendipity is changing the lives of women, children and their entire families in rural communities in Kano, Nigeria. By providing access to abundant water we are transiting into training on agricultural processing for the women to become self-reliant and thus communities can now advance towards achieving agricultural and economic development.
In July we partnered with an agricultural firm to teach women on skills for creating nursery beds, sowing seeds, processing food crops and marketing of such products to the wider public. Now that access to clean, abundant, and affordable water is secured in these communities, Serendipity’s field team and volunteers are preparing for this next stage of our partnership with the communities.
In Kudundu Fawa Dango community, we distributed wash materials and these women were organized into groups of ten that will form semi cooperative groups where they will be taught how to grow seedlings nurseries and learn modern techniques of sowing tree seeds and planting millet and groundnut which is part of the staple food in the community. They will also be taught on how to build planting beds and transplant vegetable seedlings. Participants will also learn how to properly water vegetable plants and how to use compost to improve soil productivity. Over the next few months, our field team will have put in place all machineries to make this next phase a success and will continue to work with cooperative members to strengthen and expand these agricultural skills.
Our pilot community is Kundundu Fawa Dango and with the provision of access to water and training on agricultural skills, the dream of the women being empowered and assisting their families will come true and can be replicated in neighboring communities. Will you help them to succeed on this dream? Your donation towards provision of access to water in rural communities will not only help a child but empower women through agricultural skills and economic development thus creating a source of income for them to assist their families.
