Overview
This progress report covers the period from November 2025 to February 2026 for the project “$5 Brings Safe Water to Families in Bangladesh”, implemented under the Water & Sanitation for Climate-Affected Communities initiative. The project continues to aim at providing free Water ATM cards and water jars to the poorest and most climate-vulnerable families in northern Bangladesh, enabling access to safe and affordable drinking water through an existing Water ATM Booth.
During this reporting period, no new donations were received. As a result, no additional distributions could be carried out beyond the initial preparations described in the previous report. Despite this constraint, the project groundwork and community engagement activities were sustained to ensure readiness for immediate implementation once funding becomes available.
Activities and Progress1. Community Follow-Up and Engagement
GFI volunteers maintained regular communication with previously identified beneficiary families and local community leaders. These interactions helped manage expectations, sustain trust, and reaffirm community interest in the project despite delays caused by funding shortages.
2. Beneficiary List Maintenance
The preliminary list of vulnerable households—particularly single mothers, elderly persons, and daily wage laborers living near the Water ATM Booth—was reviewed and updated to reflect any changes in household conditions. This ensures that support can be delivered promptly and fairly when resources are secured.
3. Awareness Continuity
Informal awareness efforts continued at the community level, focusing on the importance of safe drinking water, proper water storage, and hygienic practices. These efforts required minimal financial resources and relied on volunteer time and community participation.
Observations and Interim Outcomes
Community interest and demand for Water ATM cards and water jars remain high.
Beneficiary families continue to express strong willingness to participate once distribution resumes.
Local youth and community volunteers remain engaged and ready to support logistics and awareness activities.
Challenges
Lack of funding during the reporting period halted procurement and distribution activities.
Prolonged delays risk discouraging highly vulnerable families who are still dependent on unsafe or costly water sources.
Rising transportation and material costs may further affect implementation once funding is received.
Next Steps
Resume procurement and distribution immediately upon receipt of donations.
Strengthen fundraising and outreach efforts to attract new small-scale donors, emphasizing the low-cost, high-impact nature of the intervention.
Document community readiness and unmet needs to support donor communication and proposal development.
Conclusion
While no donations were received during the November 2025 to February 2026 reporting period, the Green Fund Initiative has continued essential preparatory and community engagement work to keep the project active and implementation-ready. The need for safe drinking water among climate-affected communities in northern Bangladesh remains urgent.
GFI remains committed to this initiative and is prepared to scale activities as soon as funding becomes available. Each $5 contribution still represents a direct and immediate pathway to clean water for a vulnerable family, and continued support will be critical to turning this readiness into impact.
