Progress report water ATM card

By Anisur Rahman | Project Coordinator

Reporting Period: July – October 2025
Implementing Organization: Green Fund Initiative (GFI)
Project Location: Northern Bangladesh

Overview

This is the first progress report for the project “Just $5 for a Water ATM Card & Jar – Will You Help?” launched under the Water & Sanitation for Climate-Affected Communities initiative of the Green Fund Initiative. The project aims to provide free Water ATM cards and water jars to the poorest families in northern Bangladesh so they can access safe and affordable drinking water from the existing Water ATM Booth.

During this reporting period, we received our first donation of $20 from a generous supporter—enough to help four vulnerable families gain access to clean drinking water. We are deeply grateful for this contribution and the encouragement it brings as we begin this important journey.

Activities and Progress

1. Identification of Beneficiary Families
Our community volunteers, in coordination with local women’s groups, identified families who are most in need—particularly single mothers, elderly individuals, and daily wage laborers living near the Water ATM Booth.

2. Procurement Planning
With the $20 received, we have initiated the procurement process for four Water ATM cards and four 20-liter water jars. Local suppliers were contacted to ensure the jars are durable and safe for long-term storage.

3. Awareness and Orientation
Community members were briefed about how the Water ATM system operates and how to maintain hygiene in water storage. This small yet significant activity encouraged greater ownership and pride within the community.

Early Outcomes

  • Four families will soon receive their free ATM card and water jar, ensuring reliable access to purified drinking water.

  • Community enthusiasm is growing, with several residents volunteering to help identify others in need.

  • Local youth have shown interest in supporting the awareness campaign and helping with logistics for future distributions.

Challenges

  • Limited funding has slowed the pace of distribution. Many more families are waiting for support.

  • Transporting jars from suppliers to remote locations can be costly, so we are exploring low-cost delivery options using local partners.

Next Steps

  • Complete distribution of the first batch of Water ATM cards and jars.

  • Document beneficiary stories and feedback to share with donors.

  • Continue fundraising to reach more families—each $5 makes a real, immediate difference.

Conclusion

The Green Fund Initiative is proud to share that this project has officially begun, with the first donation already set to transform lives. The initial $20 contribution is more than a number—it represents hope and opportunity for four families who will now be able to access safe water every day.

We sincerely thank our donor for being the first to support this cause and invite others to join us in making clean water a reality for all.
