International Faith Rehabilitation Development Program plans to improve water and sanitation in villages within Kakamega county in Western Kenya. This will curb lack of safe water and sanitation facilities in rural and peri-urban communities. This will target community members and schools. Among other activities, the project will construct 10 water tanks in schools to serve over 3,500 children, protect 30 water springs, construct 40 VIP latrines in schools and construct 80 household latrines.
Lack of safe water and sanitation facilities in urban, peri-urban and rural community settings is rampant in Kakamega County. The county has got a good rainfall catchment through out the year and this calls for protection of water springs and construction of ferrocement water tanks. Sanitation facilities are also poor in villages and schools which calls for construction of VIP latrines. The beneficiaries will be the community members especially children, women and public institution.
The project will improve water and sanitation facilities by improving the livelihood of the community through construction of 10 rain water tanks, protection of 30 natural springs, construction of 40 VIP latrines, construction of 80 household slabs. Among activities, there will be also development of village artisans, HIV/AIDS awareness in schools and villages, training of management committees. T
The project will improve water and sanitation facilities to benefit over 16500 community members to rise from poor state of unsafe water and sanitation in order to improve their livelihood. The project will empower community members from unsustainable community to own a permanent sustainable and manageable community to eradicate poverty as a long term resolution. Capacity building of spring management committees will also sustain the project.
