Background
Wangui Primary School is located in Ndaragwa Division, Nyandarua North sub-County, Nyandarua County. The school has total population of 270 (144 girls, 126 boys and 11teachers). Wangui Primary School’s WASH project was identified during a situational analysis carried out by KRA in collaboration with the partnering local communities. The Wangui Primary School is one of the nine schools that have benefited from the KRA initiated WASH project in Nyandarua North sub-County.
Need Assessment
The main objective of the assessment was to carry out the school’s WASH needs as has been the practice of KRA. The assessment mission included physical evaluation of existing WASH facilities and discussions with PTA/SMC representatives on related WASH issues, and prioritization of the proposed project components.
The findings of the participatory needs assessment proposed the following interventions:
ü Increase sustainable water availability for drinking through construction of rainwater harvesting systems (roof catchment water storage tank (75m3) ;
ü Build the capacity and increase knowledge of local communities on rainwater harvesting, improved water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH).
Project Implementation Status
One of the output of the WASH project in this school was constructing a masonry water tank of 75m3 and installation of guttering systems including a foul-flash system, I am happy to report that so far the construction of the tank is underway and could be completed in a month’s time. The parents contributed in excavating the tank foundation and this was a very good show of goodwill and appreciation.
I continue to thank you for your generosity and kindly ask you to come with us in this journey of bringing clean and safe water closer to kenya rural primary schools
Thank You!
