Hello friend,
Thank you for your ongoing support. Your generosity helps us to build awareness and protect habitat for resident and migratory birds in Central America.
Currently, migratory birds are just beginning their southward journey for the non-breeding season. Your support helps us to ensure that these migratory birds find intact forest and wetland habitats when they arrive in Central America. For example, last month we signed a lease agreement with the Reserva Quelantaro in Nicaragua's dry tropical forest, where species of conservation concern, such as the wood thrush and painted buntings, are common in the winter. Through this agreement, we prevented the forest from being converted to farmland, as the landowner was preparing to sell the property for farm production.
In addition to this impact, by sustaining our bird programs you helped us to document resident King Vultures and their habitats in Nicaragua and El Salvador. These are the largest vultures of Central America, and their health and survival is so important for the ecosystem. This king vulture project is also supported by the Tracy Aviary, a bird education center in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Below, I have included photos of just a few of the bird species that we watch over.
Thank you,
Kate Huey
