This project seeks to enhance livelihood access and make strides in environmental protection through business training of 200 students and 500 unemployed youth from within Juba in waste recycling enterprise (from plastic waste materials ) while coaching them on the waste management concept of reduce,reuse and recycle .
Imagine a population of more than 320,000 people disposing waste-62% of which are non biodegradable- every single day without any thought of its impact on the environment(Globally, three hundred million tons of plastics are produced each year, out of all these, only 9% is recycled) and what income earning opportunities lying in them to curb their high level of unemployment aimed at making contributions to avert poverty prevalence that makes them to live below 1000 dollars per year(426USD)
GEPA will train 700 students and youth in waste management techniques using recycling for income generation approach,we believe there will be a behavioral change among the beneficiaries in regards to environmental conservation and in turn change current waste mismanagement trend since the future is incumbent upon them. 75 beneficiaries will through waste management innovation challenge be awarded small capitals aimed at formalizing registration of their enterprise and boosting production.
Waste recycling will contribute to the individual beneficiary livelihood through employment of over 75 households within Juba alone hence increasing their household income and standard of living. The project will certainly foster South Sudan's realization of agenda 2030 goals and targets especially under Goal 6, Goal 11 and Goal 15.
