By Joy Onuche | Project Leader
Our Walk to Learn project was launched to address a simple but painful reality: thousands of children in rural Nigerian communities walk long distances to school without shoes. This leaves them vulnerable to injuries, infections, and sometimes discourages them from attending school altogether. Our vision is to provide these children with school sandals and essential learning materials—helping them walk to school with dignity and learn with confidence. Progress So Far Although we have not yet received donations through GlobalGiving, we have been actively preparing to make this vision a reality:
Community assessments: We have visited okura ofabte to identify children most in need.
Partnership building: Local volunteers and community leaders are ready to support distribution efforts once funds are available.
Awareness campaigns: We have been sharing stories of these children to raise awareness and rally support for the project.
Why Your Support Matters
Children walking barefoot to school often arrive late, tired, or absent altogether due to foot injuries or illness. Providing just one pair of school sandals—costing as little as 2,000 / $2—can remove a barrier to education and inspire a child to stay in school.
Our Next Steps
Fundraising: Secure enough resources to provide the first batch of sandals and school kits.
Implementation: Once funded, we will immediately begin distribution in okura ofante reaching the first group of children in need.
Impact reporting: We will share photos, stories, and clear updates so every supporter can see the difference they are making.
Call to Action
This project is ready to launch—we just need your partnership to take the first step. Together, we can help children walk safely to school, learn with pride, and dream without limits.
Thank you for believing in the power of small acts to create a lasting impact.
