SAP will train 500 youth and women in VSBK (Vertical Shaft Brick Kiln) technology in Iganga District - producing fuel-efficient, eco-friendly bricks, tiles, and ventilators. This cuts deforestation by 80%, reduces CO2 emissions, creates 500 jobs, and builds affordable housing materials for 10,000 residents, transforming waste clay into lasting livelihoods.
Iganga loses 4,200 ha of forest annually to charcoal and traditional brick burning (NEMA 2023). Over 62% of households use wood-fired kilns, releasing toxic smoke. Youth unemployment exceeds 70% (UBOS 2024). Cheap, durable building materials are unaffordable for 78% of families, trapping communities in poverty cycles.
SAP trains 500 youth and women in VSBK kiln technology - producing assorted building bricks using 80% less fuel. Trainees receive operational manuals, machinery (molding, mixing, compressors), and a shared warehouse. Marketing skills training enables graduates to sell bricks, ventilators, tiles, and wall panels, generating consistent income in Iganga and beyond.
500 trained entrepreneurs earn $3-$8/day from assorted building brick sales. Deforestation from traditional kilns drops measurably. 2,000 low-income families access affordable building materials. VSBK graduates' mentor 1,000 additional youth within 3 years, creating a self-sustaining clean-technology industry rooted in Iganga District's economy
