Volmoed Retreat Centre was severely impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. International groups and visitors began to return after the pandemic, but it is still slow. This results in cash flow challenges to pay the staff a living wage, so they can afford the increased costs of food, fuel and electricity. The funds raised will help Volmoed pay the loyal, hard working staff during the lean winter months when bookings are slow. The funds will also support staff during medical and other crises.
Volmoed Retreat Centre has started to recover from the Covid-19 pandemic. Some groups and individuals returned for programs, international guests are returning. But it has not yet fully recovered, bookings for the winter months are still low and slow. We want to pay our staff a living wage because of increased costs of food, fuel and electricity, but as yet this is not possible. This is a huge struggle for the low-income staff trying to feed their families and often dealing with big crises.
Money from this fundraiser will help the Volmoed Trust to pay staff salaries and wages through the lean winter months, when bookings are slow and cash flow is a challenge. It will also help to fund staff emergencies like their unexpected medical expenses, car repairs and family crises.
This project will enable families of staff members to earn a living wage and feed their families, and also be able to deal with medical, car and other crises when they arise. This will build staff morale and help them continue their wonderful welcome to the visitors and guests who come to Volmoed for rest and renewal and reconciliation programs.
