The project has made progress in mobilizing and identifying women artisans, initial planning, coordination, and preparations for the rollout of programme activities. These activities have helped clarify the needs and opportunities within the target group and project context. The project team has continued to engage the relevant stakeholders and establish partnerships that contribute to a successful implementation. Further, creating awareness and engaging with the women artisans has provided an opportunity to better understand their experiences, challenges, skills, and expectations from the project.
However, the overall implementation remains slower than anticipated, largely due to challenges of unavailable financial support. Several planned interventions will require additional funding to move from the preparation stage to full implementation. This has affected the pace of implementing activities such as training, mobilization, and follow-up with women artisans.
The financial support gap continues to be a significant constraint to planned activities, causing delays in accessing the required resources and postponing scheduled activities, while others are being implemented on a smaller scale than originally planned. This has limited the support that can be offered to the women artisans in Kilifi. Despite these challenges, the project team is still committed to implementing the project once the resources are available. Timely financial support and additional partnerships will be critical to ensuring that planned activities for the project can move more effectively to deliver meaningful, sustainable livelihood outcomes for the targeted women artisans in Kilifi.
