Food and basic needs for the poor.

One of the first statistics in Tijuna we noticed when we created our project was the fact that many of the people we started helping had not completed their high school education. As we spent time with the families we experienced first hand the unfortunate situation where their young teen children (often around 8th grade) would not continue their education any further. Sometimes this was due to young men who needed to go to work and help provide needed income for their family. For the young women it could have been the same and/or also to be at home to help with younger children and housework while parents worked.

But one other reason for discountinued education, an even greater surprise to us, was the fact that many kids were dismissed from public school due to over crowded schools. Children's future are determined by a lottery system. If a child does not make the lottery they are simply not invited back to public school. What are other options? Private charter schools. These schools are a good alternative but only if a childs family can affort it. Many families are barely able to make ends meet muchless be able to pay for private school to ensure their child (sometimes perhaps more than one child doesnt make lottery) gets a full education. 

So the above situations often led to many adults not having an education past the 8th grade. In addition to the need for providing food and basic needs, through our GlobalGiving project, we saw this as an urgent need to address so that The Cycle Can Be Changed - The cycle of poverty. 

With your help we have provided tuition for kids to finish basic education. And with your help we have provided tuition for those willing and interested in continued education. We have mentioned before one young woman who is now a registered nurse. We sponsor another young woman who is in business school. Another young woman in chef school. And more recently a young man preparing to be an engineer and a second young man to become an architect.

It is truly a delight to see the excitement in a young person who is eager to learn and become something to be proud of. Thank you for helping us make this possibility happen.
