This report highlights the impressive work made by the Seeds of Life program in empowering rural women farmers, supporting the Foindu community's agriculture and food security, and advancing the construction of the Skills Development and Training Center that will be a game changer for the Foindu community.
Overview of Key Accomplishments
Empowerment and Skills Development Training for 40 Rural Women Farmers in Foindu
Impact Sierra Leone (ISL) held a 3-day Empowerment and Skills Development Training workshop for 40 women farmers in the Foindu community. The training aimed to empower these rural women with tools and skills to better manage their farms, learn financial management, and transition from subsistence to commercial farming.
Agriculture/Food Security Support to Foindu Community
ISL provided seedlings for the women farmers and community to plant, including 40 women receiving 2 cups of corn and an additional 50 cups provided in June. 125 cups of peppers were harvested and sold for the women farmers. Brushing and clearing activities were completed in June to prepare for groundnut and corn planting. ISL sponsored rice and soup lunches prepared by the women farmers, feeding 50 volunteers.
Donations Received for the Skills Development and Training Centre
ISL received a donation of 2 sewing machines, fabrics, and supplies from an online donor, to be used at the future training center.
Easter Empowerment Celebration for Women Farmers and Children in Foindu
ISL sponsored an Easter celebration, providing food and gift bags for Women Farmers and their children in Foindu community. Cothes, shoes, medical, and infant supplies were also donated.
Partnership with Conteh Group for Skills Development and Training Center Construction
ISL partnered with Conteh Group to provide outstanding marketing and fundraising support for the center's construction.
Land Acquired for Skills Development and Training Center
A plot of land was secured, surveyed, and approved by the community for the training center construction. Architectural designs, budgets, and planning documents were drafted.
Conteh Group's Contribution
Conteh Group submitted draft marketing materials and development strategies for more partnerships.
Skills Development and Training Center Coordinating Team Formed
A team was formed to lead the implementation of the training center project, with plans to visit the site in August 2024.
Curriculum Research for Training Center
The ISL team visited vocational shops to gather information for the training center's curriculum. Two tutors were identified to be part of the teaching staff.
Clothing, Shoes, and Vocational Supplies Acquired
Items were acquired and will be shipped to Sierra Leone in August 2024 for the Seeds of Life program supporting rural women farmers and their children in Foindu.
Action Items to Be Completed:
- Obtain written confirmation of land approval for ISL activities.
- Conduct site visit in Foindu by July 20, 2024.
- Update website with project activities and fundraising campaigns.
- Execute the Seeds of Life Skills Development and Training Center Project funding campaign.
