Meet Jennifer. Originally from Gulu, this mother of 4 has been married for 17 years. At 34, her Acholi name, which means “full of laughter” seems appropriate, although she is still a bit shy. She went to school through Primary 6 so she has some English. After Project Have Hope trained her in tailoring, Jennifer got a job working in a factory. Her husband doesn’t work so she works nights making police uniforms. It is a long walk to and from work (3 miles each way) but it allows her care for her children 14,12, 8 and 5. Right now only one of her children goes to school and she wishes more could since she believes if you “study well you will have a good life”. Life in Gulu was better, since in the Acholi Quarters there are so many people in such a small area. Gulu was more pleasant since the area she lived in was more spacious and her tribe was around. Going back to be a tailor there making lots of types of garments would be her dream.
