June 2021 Vital Voices Update
By Madeleine Boyd | Manager, Strategic Partnerships & Engagement
Hi,
I hope you’re well and that your July is off to a great start! I’m reaching out to share a quick update from Vital Voices. I hope you’ll read on to learn about the programs we’re running, programs accepting applications and ways to get involved.
In the past ten weeks we have:
- Announced our 2021 VV GROW Fellowship cohort comprised of 50 women business owners from 28 countries around the world. Get to know this year’s fellows by watching this video!
- Brought together our supporters in the Pacific Northwest for the Vital Voices Northwest Council Speaker Series’ Women in Technology event, a discussion with women leaders shaping the technology industry. The May 5th event featured Sharon Chiarella, Chief Product Officer of Stitchfix, Elizabeth Hunter, Senior VP of Product & Technology at T-Mobile and Akshaya Venkat, Senior Technical Product Owner at Mercedes-Benz in conversation with Vital Voices’ own Senior Director of Economic Empowerment and Entrepreneurship Eugenia Podesta.
- Brought together our supporters in the Los Angeles area for our first in-person book signing with Vital Voices CEO Alyse Nelson and artist Gayle Kabaker to celebrate our book Vital Voices: 100 Women Using Their Power to Empower.
- Hosted our Women In STEM event with the Vital Voices Northwest Council to celebrate women leading in STEM fields featuring Vital Voices Network Member Esra’a Al-Shafei, the founder of Majal.org, and NASA Astronaut Jasmin Moghbeli in conversation with award-winning journalist Tara Kangarlou.
- Finished accepting applications for our Voices that Inspire (Voces Que Inspiran) program to support young women who are closing the persistent gender gap in Latin America and the Caribbean and are now in the review process to select this year’s fellows.
- Closed the application cycle for our Intergenerational Fellowship on Women, Peace and Security in South Central Europe: The Peace fellowship, a new year-long program to support emerging and established leaders working to address gender-based violence in the countries of Bosnia and Hezegovina, Croatia, Kosovo and Serbia.
Thank you for your support of Vital Voices and the women leaders we partner with around the world. Your support has enabled us to champion and deeply invest in women leaders who are meeting this moment, providing them with the capacity-building, leadership skills, network of their peers, grants and personalized support they need to accelerate their impact. Thank you for all you do.
Best wishes,
Madeleine
