Rainy Season delays Soccer Start

Our wonderful soccer teams are on a hiatus while the rainy season has delayed play.
The teams are ready to start playing again the beginning of November with new enthusiasm as it is the start of a new school year with new teams.
Our soccer coaches have been teaching special drills for more accurate playing. The goals should be easily attainable with this new skill that the teams have developed.
There was a special soccer field built at Tapang School where the complete field is enclosed with a net. This saves many soccer balls which would normally be lost. We had a special donation of 30 new soccer balls donated by One World Futbol. They are pumped up and ready for the new season.

Soccer Mania

Soccer Match
The village kids are eager to play team soccer even in the off season. They had the chance to play a 6 VS 6 team during a Globalteers Sports day. The Under 16 year old team played 3 mini-matches within a 2 hour time frame. The match is played on a shortened field and it is only 30 mins long. It is too hot to play a full match.
The first match was exhilerating with a 2-0 win. The second match didnt do as well and it was a 2-1 loss. They then played a third match for a 1-1 draw.
The teams are gearing up this month for the Globlateer Sports day on 2 Aug. The full soccer league starts in November.
The teams enjoy the activity and the comeraderie of meeting other local teams.

Soccer Final & Cleanup

Girls Under 16yr team
Out of the three CCDO football teams, the under 14 girls made it into the grand final of the 2015 Globalteer Football League at Galaxy Sports Stadium in Siem Reap! All three teams played well and it's easy to see students had an amazing time playing football throughout the season.
The under 14 girls were down 1 - 0 at half time but managed to score in the second half to make it a 1 -1 game at full time. Crowds gathered around to watch an intense penalty shoot-out which we only just lost.
There were still plenty of smiles from the girls as they got involved in the trash pick-up competition which was organized by CCDO Cambodian staff to clean up the outdoor stadium. Each NGO football team was given 3 trash bags and offered a prize for the most garbage collected. The kids did so well filling up all their bags to the brim, it was too difficult to judge the winner and it was only fair that they all got something. Over 100 ice cream popsicles were given out after the cleanup to all the teams.The cost of this was a mere $30 and it went a long way to help reinforce the important message about keeping a clean environment and that cleanliness is important for health.
The boys teams did not fare as well as the girls team. However, they now have additional practice sessions and some new drills to master. We are certain that by next season, they will have improved their game. The one superstar in the Under 16yrs, is Hounn Hak, the goalie for the team who not only defends really well, but has a very strong kick that sends the ball from one end of the field to the other.
